Fausto - Wine & Spirits Magazine

Joe Campanale, the man behind the wine lists at West Village hot spots dell’anima, L’Artusi and Anfora, brings a similar low-key, classy vibe to the revamped Franny’s space. Fausto’s concise menu of pastas and meaty mains is backed by a wine list that leans Italian, with nods to France and California. Campanale keeps prices gentle by skewing south, toward Sicily and Campania, and to affordable bottlings from prestigious producers, like Burlotto’s 2016 Barbera d’Alba ($56). You can’t go wrong with any of the under-the-radar Chiantis on the list (Monteraponi, Monte Bernardi and Pruneto). If you want to splurge, ask for the reserve list, where we recently found Giuseppe Mascarello 2011 Barolo Monprivato drinking beautifully at $250, and Petterino 2005 Gattinara ($150).
