Based in Vertus, Charles-Henry and Emmanuel Fourny farm chardonnay in the village’s chalk soils with HVE certification. They age a third of their base wines in Burgundy barrels and allow some of their lots to undergo malolactic conversion. Their Extra Brut is constricted and tense, compact in its floral notes, gentle in its golden-apple flavors and pithy acidity. Tight-fisted and buzzing with energy, this is a young wine with a future, even as it’s delicious to drink now.
