Just when I thought my days of sipping vodka were long past, along comes Spirit Works Vodka from Sonoma County. Owners and distillers Ashby and Timo Marshall source organic red winter wheat from Northern California, then grind, ferment and distill it. The effort of going grain-to-glass shows in the vodka’s wonderfully fruity and malty flavors. Hints of vanilla come across like a freshly opened bag of marshmallows, a little grassy and sweet, and yet very clean. It barely requires chilling to enjoy.
