The dowdy stripmall location may not excite dreams of faraway places, but Chef Jan Jorgensen’s 38-bottle rum menu certainly might. Ports of call include Jamaica’s oak-aged Plantation Reserve ($12), Haiti’s 15-year-old Estate Reserve Barbancourt ($10), Guyana’s 15-year-old El Dorado ($18) and Guatemala’s almost Cognac-like Zacapa Centenario ($14). Though he does get the occasional request for a Cuba Libre, “most of the rums are smooth enough to sip neat or with a cube,” says Jorgensen, who has compiled a bar of more than 400 spirits a very long way from his native Denmark.
