Monsoon

For German and Austrian wines, head to Monsoon, Eric and Sophie Banh’s modern Vietnamese restaurant, famed for luxe oxtail pho and caramelized Idaho catfish in warm coconut sauce. Their seasonally aware menu offers unexpected pleasures, such as tamarind soup with sweet prawns and pineapple, or halibut cheeks with ginger nuac cham and warm, ripe mango. But the wine list is also a major draw. It goes deep into riesling land, with multiple vintages from the likes of J.J. Prüm, Dönnhoff and Dr. Bürklin-Wolf, and it’s also strong on grüner veltliner, Loire chenin and Chablis. For those who must go red, there’s an extensive array of Willamette pinots and Burgundies, as well as a robust array of syrahs from up and down the West Coast and across the Rhône Valley.
