The aperitivi are enough to make Giulietta worth a visit next time you’re in Toronto. Try the aromatic, grapefruit-forward Cynar Spritz, or the Giulietta Spritz, which uses Quaglia Aperitivo Berto in place of Aperol; either have the cut to match the pane di cutro, a house-made bread with a chestnut-and-lard spread. When you’re ready for wine, there are plenty of Italian bottles to go with the hand-rolled pastas, wood-fired pizzas and plates of fritto misto; but also check out the New World offerings: Sommelier Toni Weber has assembled an array of bottles from small New World producers, some of which aren’t in the US yet, such as Gentle Folk out of South Australia. Finish the meal with a Shakerado, made with the orange-scented Amaro dell’Etna and espresso, an excellent pre-theater treat.
