New York: Ketchy Shuby

Ketchy Shuby, a restaurant and lounge in New York’s Soho neighborhood, opened in September 2023 by Jaimie Mulholland, who previously owned Surf Lodge in Montauk, New York. Mulholland was born in South Africa and spent time growing up in St. Maarten; he pulled from both backgrounds while working on Ketchy Shuby’s eclectic menu with Culinary Director Sean Olnowich. The upstairs dining space feels tropical and inviting, with lush green vines traversing the ceiling and large, semi-circular booths adorned with colorfully floral pillows. The staff is warm and knowledgeable, guiding you through the menu filled with vegetable dishes like the savory beet tartare mixed with quinoa and cucumber, topped with spiced coconut yogurt and served atop a crispy corn tortilla, or the more decadent pasture-raised chicken covered in dried apricots, raisins and dates, served with a rich Madeira sauce.

The cocktail program, headed up by Wayne Gravesande, offers a diverse mix of juicy, tropical drinks and traditional spirit-forward concoctions. Try the sweet and smoky Catch a Fire, made with Mezcal, coconut liqueur, cinnamon and pineapple juice, for something playful or the Black Uhuru, made with New York’s Great Jones Bourbon, Averno Amaro and Giffard Banana, for something complex and layered. If you’re looking to keep the night going with cocktails and dancing, there’s a downstairs lounge open Thursday through Saturday.
