Bascule, nestled in the heart of Cape Town’s lively waterfront, claims to have the largest collection of whiskies in the Southern Hemisphere, with 420 labels, including more than 300 from Scotland, about 40 from Ireland and 30-some from the US. Sailors tie up at the front-door marina and mingle with locals and celebs, while balmy breezes add authenticity to the nautically-themed decor. The signature cocktail, Bascule Spice (Famous Grouse infused with whole cinnamon, nutmeg, clove and star anise, then mixed with citrus and bitters), salutes Cape Town’s 17th-century founding as a layover on the Spice Route.
