Italy’s Angelo Gaja has been named the Institute of Masters of Wine’s ninth Winemakers’ Winemaker.


Angelo Gaja was born in Alba, Italy in 1940 and holds a degree in oenology and a Master of Economics from the University of Turin. He joined the family business, Gaja Winery, in 1961 and took over its management in 1969. Today, Gaja Winery owns a wine estate in Piedmont, two in Tuscany and, through a joint venture with the Graci family, one on the southern slope of Sicily’s Mount Etna.
