Top of the List

Tomorrow night—May 1st—more than 100 wineries will descend on The Metropolitan Pavilion on West 18th Street for one of the most exciting wine events of the year: Wine & Spirits Magazine’s Annual Top of the List.

What’s on the list: The wines that made the Restaurant Top 50 of our 24th Annual Restaurant Poll, plus some of the most popular sparkling wines and pinot noirs, cabernets and Ports; wines from France, Italy, Spain, Argentina, Greece and more. Wines you know well, and wines that somms have picked as their favorite new discoveries.

Rub shoulders with winery owners and winemakers—David Adelsheim from Oregon; Ken Coopersmith at Merry Edwards, Jay & Tobin Heminway from Green & Red, Bob Lindquist from Qupé, Michael Terrien from Obsidian Ridge and John Wurdeman of Pheasant’s Tears are just a few of our star guests.

And eat well: Over a dozen purveyors, including many of our 2012 New & Notable NYC picks, are dishing up food, including Dear Bushwick, Exchange Alley, L’Apicio and La Vara. And, as usual, Grand Central Oyster Bar will be shucking as fast you can slurp down their meaty bivalves. (You can find them next to the sparkling wines.)

One last detail: All this fun is in the name of NY/NJ Baykeeper, an organization dedicated to protecting, preserving and restoring the ecological integrity and productivity of the Hudson-Raritan Estuary. Since 1989, Baykeeper has served as citizen advocate for the bays, streams and shores of the Estuary. Baykeeper stops polluters, champions public access, influences land use decisions and restores habitat—benefiting the natural and human communities of our watershed.
