While many wineries escaped unscathed, not all were so lucky. Water rose to the 7-foot level at Gracianna Wines in Healdsburg, inundating and submerging the tasting room. In Sabastopol, Pax Mahle Wines experienced extensive damage. Sommelier turned winebroker, Patrick T Cappiello, says that Pax, which also houses Jolie-Laide Wines, Jaimee Motley Wines, RAEN Winery, Martha Stoumen Wines, and Ardure experienced major losses and has also put all operations at the winery and tasting room on indefinite hold.
Several organizations have begun fundraising on behalf of Pax and other wineries and businesses affected. Cappiello launched a Pax Wines Flood Recovery campaign on GoFundMe which has already raised more than $45,000. On March 4, United Way of the Wine Country launched the Flood Recovery & Wellness Fund, which will support flood relief through agency partners in the region, and which is designed to help flood survivors to get back on their feet.
We are continuing to gather information on the aftermath of the Russian River flooding and will post news as it comes in.
