Pascaline Lepeltier Sweeps Somm Competition

Evidently, it’s not only the year of the Woman in Congress but also in wine. Pascaline Lepeltier, MS, became the first woman ever to win the title of “Best Sommelier of France.”

Earlier this year, Lepeltier, managing partner at Racines in New York City, was one of 39 contestants from France, Switzerland, Luxembourg, the United Kingdom and the United States in the Meilleur Ouvriers de France (Best Craftsmen in France, or MOF), a competition held in more than 16 industries. The wine competition, administered by the Union de la Sommelier Francaise, encompasses all aspects of wine as it relates to service as well as French culture, incorporating questions on its appearance in art, film and literature. On November 11 Lepeltier, who was one of five semifinalists, took home the title. In 2011 this magazine identified her as one of the five best new US sommeliers. Bravo Pascaline!
