The Wine & Spirit Education Trust honored Mary Ewing-Mulligan, MW, with its Lifetime Achievement Award on January 21. Ewing-Mulligan became the director of the International Wine Center
in 1984 and, after earning her Master of Wine accreditation in 1993—the first US woman to earn the MW—she began to offer the WSET program in the US the following year. Since then, the school has helped more than 335 students gain their WSET Diploma in Wines & Spirits, a traditional pre-requisite for going on to a Master of Wine. Ewing-Mulligan, a past president of the Institute of Masters of Wine (North America), is also an active speaker, wine judge and writer; Wine For Dummies
, the book she authored with her husband, Ed McCarthy, has sold more than one million copies.
