California’s Governor Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency over the high winds driving wildfires in northern Sonoma County and southern California.

The Kincade Fire, which began near Geyserville on Wednesday night, October 23, had consumed 66,000 acres of land in northern Sonoma and was only 5 percent contained as of Monday morning. Due to sustained hurricane-force winds, the mandatory evacuation zone has spread from the county’s eastern border in the Mayacamas Mountains to the Pacific, including major population centers around the north side of the city of Santa Rosa; there is now an evacuation advisory in Calistoga, across the mountains into Napa Valley. Several hundred thousand people have been displaced from their homes and their jobs. If you’d like to help, check out this site for many opportunities to get involved:
