Rare Wines, for a Cause

In October, 12 European wine families, Sotheby’s Wine and Le Bernardin are teaming up in New York for a gala dinner, and an auction of some very rare wines, to benefit No Kid Hungry, the campaign from Share Our Strength devoted to ending childhood hunger.

To be featured at the Primum Familiae Vini Gala Dinner and Auction on October 16 are Marchesi Antinori, Baron Philippe de Rothschild, Domaine Clarence Dillon, Joseph Drouhin, Egon Müller Scharzhof, Famille Hugel, Famille Perrin, Pol Roger, Symington Family Estates, Tenuta San Guido, Familia Torres and Vega Sicilia. The dinner, which will be hosted by family members from each estate, will feature one wine from each house—from vintages 1953 through 2008—paired with Le Bernardin chef Eric Ripert’s cuisine.

Following the dinner, Sotheby’s Wine will auction off one ultra-limited-edition case of one wine from each estate, from vintages between 1953 and 1989, including a 1953 Vega Sicilia Único, 1963 Graham’s Vintage Port, and a 1989 Château de Beaucastel Hommage à Jacques Perrin. The auction winner will also receive a passport to visit, and be hosted at, each of the 12 estates.

Tickets for the October 16 dinner begin at $5,000 per seat. All proceeds from both the dinner and the auction will go to No Kid Hungry.
