André Simon Drink Book Awards Shortlist Announced


Attention book lovers: The shortlists for the André Simon Food & Drink Book Awards have been announced. Named for a former wine shipper and writer who was central to the English wine trade in the first half of the 1900s, the awards have been given since 1978. This year’s wine-book awards, overseen by independent assessor Dan Yago, include the eighth edition of The World Atlas of Wine by Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson (also the W&S Book of the Year) as well as Wine Simple, by Aldo Sohm, sommelier at Le Bernardin in NYC. Other titles include A Brief History of Lager: 500 Years of the World’s Favourite Beer by Mark Dredge (Kyle Books); Christie’s Encyclopedia of Champagne and Sparkling Wine, 4th edition, by Tom Stevenson and Essi Avellan MW (Bloomsbury Absolute); Drinkology, by Alexis Willett (Robinson); Tales of the Tea Trade, by Michelle and Rob Comins (Pavilion Books); and Wines of the French Alps: Savoie, Bugey and Beyond by Wink Lorch (Wine Travel Media).
