Walnut Street Café

A new addition to Philadelphia’s University City neighborhood, Walnut Street Café is the first project outside of Manhattan by Branden McRill, Patrick Cappiello and Daniel Eddy, the team behind NYC wine destinations Pearl & Ash and Rebelle. Mornings here begin with coffee and chocolate babka; lunch brings handmade pastas, and happy hour offers an occasion for cocktails that don’t take themselves too seriously. In the evening, the wine program shines: 100 bottles, 50 by the glass, and head sommelier Kaitlyn Caruke will happily pour a half bottle, too. Look for selections such as Bloomer Creek’s Edelzwicker, a quirky blend including Cayuga white from New York’s Finger Lakes; or Tornatore’s 2015 Etna Rosado, from nerello mascalese grown in Mount Etna’s volcanic soil.
