Thelonious Wines

A good glass of wine was hard to find in Portland’s historic Pearl District, an area where craft breweries reign, until two sommeliers opened Thelonious Wines, a wine bar and bottle shop in a two-story loft brimming with leafy ferns and stacks of well-loved wine books. Owners Kelsey Glasser (formerly of José Andrés’s The Bazaar and EP & LP in Los Angeles) and Alejandro Marchesini (of Scampo in Boston and the Camden Harbour Inn in Maine) stock the shelves with a savvy mix of rare, aged wines and coveted West Coast reds (Sea Smoke, Bond Matriarch, Beaux Frères), as well as a deep array of wines from producers with a natural bent, like Philippe Bornard from France’s Jura and Sicily’s Frank Cornelissen. Uncork a bottle to share at the shop or choose from 25-plus wines by the glass to pair with a cheese-and-charcuterie plate, seasonal crostini or a vegetable-driven special made with produce from the family garden.
