“It still has that magical ambiance,” says Mark Thompson, the Saison and Mourad vet who is in the process of launching his own wine-focused restaurant. The name references the classic films shown every night on a wall of the protected central patio, where abundant string lighting anchors one of SF’s only reliable outdoor dining options. Last year, chef-owners Gayle Pirie and John Clark collected their recipes into a cookbook published by Abrams Books, allowing home cooks to replicate beloved dishes like their curry-laced fried chicken. Wine director Shannon Tucker’s ambitious list includes what might be the city’s most thoughtful collection of Loire and Jura wines, with significant caches of Ganevat, Guiberteau and Huet.
