When the wine guy is a co-owner, you know the list won’t be orphaned by the kitchen. When the wine guy is Nacho Monclus, you know the remarkable Spanish selections will keep turning over each time you find something new to love.
Monclus knows the deep warrens of Spain’s lesser-known bodegas, so you can snag a bottle of Envínate Táganan, not because it’s trendy but because it’s one of the most head-turning wines from Spain at the moment, and he’s offering it for $65.
Monclus has teamed up with chef Brad Willits (formerly of NYC’s Lupulo) to offer casually delicious food and a lot of great drinking. Take, for example, the fried chicken, or the double cheeseburger, one of the juiciest indulgences on the menu. These dishes extend the restaurant’s new-American vibe into the Loire for Raffault’s Les Picasses, Jura for Tissot’s Poulsard, Chile’s Itata for Parra Imaginador, or the Sierra Foothills for Dirty & Rowdy’s Mourvedre. It might be hard to make a decision, but you have plenty of time in one of the more relaxed and comfortably fun dining rooms in Brooklyn.
