Trésors de Champagne, La Boutique

A recent addition to downtown Reims, Trésors de Champagne is a must-visit destination for grower Champagne enthusiasts. Opened by the 28 grower-producers that comprise the Special Club, an association founded in 1971, the sleek space is dominated by a chandelier made of several hundred Champagne bottles. Beneath your feet, a large-scale map of the region details the vineyard locations of the producers and directs you to sections dedicated to each house, where you’ll find photos of the winemaking family and their current cuvées. Some, like Bouzy legend Paul Bara and A. Margaine of Villers-Marmery, are well represented in the US, while others will be less familiar to Americans. To drink, there are six rotating Champagnes by the glass and 180-plus by the bottle—and don’t be surprised if one of the winemakers walks over to chat about the vintage. Food options are minimal, but a few steps away down the cobblestone streets you can dine in an emerging restaurant hub. Try local favorites like Brasserie du Boulingrin or Le Bocal, a wisp of a restaurant set in the back of a fish market.
