The Thief

On a retail strip crowded with tasting rooms for Walla Walla’s far-flung wineries, veteran Walla Walla sommelier Emily Riley has turned a spacious 1911 feed-and-stables building into The Thief, a wine shop specializing in international bottles. “It’s important for a wine town to see outside itself,” she explains, showing off a selection that ranges from English sparklers, to Brooklyn-made small-batch vermouth, lesser-known Australian labels and natty French wines; she also features a rotating slate of local producers not otherwise represented among the neighborhood tasting rooms. Comfy chairs, cocktail tables and electronics ports encourage lingering; a bar offers glass pours. Note: Bring a sweater; the room temperature is set for the wine.
