Father’s Office

Father’s Office receives its name from its original owner, an aging volleyball player known as ‘Dad’ when he opened the place, back in 1955. Recently Sang Yoon took it over as a haven from the restaurant business (where he excelled, having spent time at Michael’s in Santa Monica, Jamin in Paris and Masa’s in San Francisco). Sang has cozied up the place with tawny wood paneling and comfy banquettes with mini-chandeliers above each table, while the list offers more than fifty varieties of rare micro-brews and over twenty unusual wines by the glass, like an aromatic Domaine Bruno Clair Marsannay Rosé. Nosh on the addicting olives topped with roasted shaved almonds or the burger slathered in bacon compote, gruyère and arugula. And don’t leave without sipping Sang’s chocolate-colored “espresso,” a dreamy nightcap that combines tawny port with Russian imperial stout.
