The second annual Fermentation Festival hosted by Brooklyn Cider House at Twin Star Orchards in New Paltz, NY takes place on Saturday June 17th 12pm-5:30pm, celebrating the diverse traditions of fermentation in beverages and food. The event highlights New York distillers and makers of cider, beer and wine, including Brooklyn Cider House, Hana Makgeolli, Cooper’s Daughter Spirits, Drifter Ferments, Hudson North Cider Co, Graft Cider, Laughing Gut Kombucha, Springbrook Hollow Farm Distillery, Yesfolk Tonics, Wild Arc Farms, Kingston Railyard Brewing, West Kill Brewing, Rockaway Brewing, Treasury Cider and more!
Attendees will be able to taste and purchase many fermented products, as well as learn how to make kombucha, ricotta, and kimchi during workshops, which will include beverage pairings——like Korean rice wine makgeolli with kimchi. Brewers like Alice Jun, founder of Hana Makgeolli, and Peter Yi, former wine buyer turned cider maker and co-owner of Brooklyn Cider House, will lead seminars on making these beverages. Sandor Katz, a self-taught fermentation guru and James Beard award-winning author, will host a free talk on fermentation. A portion of ticket proceeds will be donated to local non-profit Phillies Bridge Farm Project, which provides sustainably grown produce for local community members with a focus on food-insecure households.
