Scopri

Located just north of the city, in Carlton, the Italian quarter, behind an unassuming set of rough farmhouse doors, there’s the perfectly simple Italian dining room that is Scopri. Whiteclothed tables, sturdy wooden café chairs, a blackboard full of specials and an old schoolroom map of Italy are backdrops to seasonal, regional dishes that taste vividly honest and authentic. Two pages of Italian wines with a strong emphasis on Piedmont make Scopri a must-visit for local nebbiolo lovers, but visitors shouldn’t miss the Australian selection, five pages showcasing the country’s top regions and varieties, especially Central and Western Victorian shiraz, such as Stefani, Craiglee, Best’s and Jasper Hill.
