Since the distinguishing feature of a fix is its reliance on pineapple, that flavor must come through. Everything else is up for grabs, and here Jack has orchestrated six other ingredients all in the service of promoting, contrasting, and expanding on that pineapple basis.
Actually, there’s only one fix in this chapter of “Fixes and Daisies,” but it’s a doozy. This time we’re not afraid of using Scotch—we suggest a blend with a strong stance, such as the Great King Street brand—and we’re backing it up with aquavit and sherry, too.
Scotch is often a difficult ingredient to mix with due to its own strong character. That’s why Scotch cocktails are so few. And why a new one is so needed. Enjoy.
¾ ounce Pineapple Cordial
3 dashes Chamomile Tincture
½ ounce fresh lemon juice
¾ ounce Aalborg Aquavit
¾ ounce Barbadillo Fino Sherry
1½ ounces Great King Street Blended Scotch
Fresh nutmeg, grated, for garnish
Add all the ingredients, except the garnish, to a shaker. Fill with ice and shake. Strain into a punch glass with one chunk of cracked ice. Garnish with freshly grated nutmeg.
