Buoyed by the recent tech boom, the Bay Area has been overtaken by new restaurants. So to save time when our food-and-drink-obsessed friends come to town, we assembled a list of our favorite places, whether for a no-holds-barred dinner, a few shared plates and a glass of wine, a cocktail or two, or just a quick pint.
The result is our SF50.
You'll find some stalwarts here, places like Chez Panisse and Zuni, restaurants that have defined Bay Area dining for decades. You’ll also find plenty of restaurants that have opened in the just the last year or two: spots like Mister Jiu's, where a personal take on Chinese cuisine meets wines that match, and Cala, where Mexican food plays with California gamay.
