Restaurant Review: San Francisco, California

Whitechapel

Kelly Puleio

For a religious experience with gin, make the pilgrimage to Whitechapel in the Tenderloin. Named after the famous East End district where “mother’s ruin” poured freely while Jack the Ripper was lurking in the alleyways, the space looks like a tube station with a steam-punk makeover. Gin expert Keli Rivers takes the lead on the gin selections (over 400, with flights available) and a Bible-sized cocktail menu that hits all corners of time and space.
